Superb, rich impression, with fresh drypoint burr. From the only edition of 30 signed proof impressions.
This marvellously detailed work shows the interior of the blacksmith's forge in the village of Achranich, on the Ardtornish estate near the Sound of Mull, western Scotland. The man seen in the picture is Charles MacDonald, the blacksmith who made the gates for Dryburgh Abbey and the ‘Tulip Gates’ at The Glen. He is buried at Peebles.
On cream laid paper with full margins and deckle edge. Mat line in outer margins and evidence of old tape at upper edge of sheet, verso; otherwise very good original condition. Image surface excellent. |
