The distant woodland scene in this composition is considered to be amongst the finest examples of pastoral etching to be found in Tanner’s later work. The manner in which the artist has achieved the extraordinary sense of recession throughout this image, from the foreground flowers and gate to the distant woodland, is testament to a lifetime of experience as a master etcher.
On warm cream laid paper with full margins and deckle edge. One or two minute rust specks in lower outer margin of sheet, otherwise generally very good original condition. Image surface excellent. |
