The Goose Fair, Albi is one of the finest of Osborne's townscapes. Hailed as one of the most harmonious prints of the year in Fine Prints of the Year, 1929, this marvellous work has captured both the busy atmosphere of the goose fair and the brooding soliditiy of the background architecture of the southern French town of Albi. To the left, the high-windowed apse of the cathedral dominates the scene, its walls shaded with aquatint tone. In the centre of the image the archbishop's old palace provides the background to the goose fair itself. This fine plate is a splendid example of both Osborne's attention to topographical detail and his outstanding ability as a printmaker.
On pale cream wove Whatman paper, with full margins. Excellent original condition. (The original frame back with associated exhibition labels accompanies this item). |
