One of the best known of John Taylor Arms’s truly astonishing etched works, Oviedo, the Holy is an outstanding example of this artist’s consummate skill as an etcher. The brilliant, intricate etchings of John Taylor Arms remain unsurpassed in the incredible detail of their handling. The fastidious care which has been lavished upon every aspect of the varied stonework and architecture in this plate has resulted in an etching so fine and so acurate that it rivals the effect of the finest line engraving.

The Cathedral of San Salvador in the centre of Oviedo, in the Asturias region of northern Spain, displays an array of architectural styles, from Pre-Romanesque to Baroque, including Romanesque, Gothic and Renaissance parts. In Oviedo, the Holy the artist’s needle has taken delight in the intricacy of the elaborate stonework, describing every aspect of the fine architectural detail.

On pale cream laid paper with full margins and deckle edge. Excellent original condition.
