This freely handled etching of a gypsy, or tinker, and his caravan-style cart is thought to show a landscape at Mersea, the low-lying island in Essex, close to the mouth of the river Thames. Mary Annie Sloane is known to have made a number of etchings of this format showing Mersea Island scenes between the years 1900 and 1901.

On fine cream laid paper with elaborate 1798 watermark and with full margins. Very fine original condition. Image surface excellent.
