Original William Walcot etching with drypoint and aquatint.

Very good, strong impression with considerable plate tone. Signed proof from the only edition.

This plate showing the central square of one of London's most famous teaching hospitals was commissioned by Sir Valentine Crittall for Christmas 1938. Sir Valentine Crittall and his brother Francis Henry Crittall were William Walcot's principal patrons in the artist's latter years; the brothers were joint directors of the Crittall Windows construction company.

On cream wove paper with full margins and deckle edge. Time toned verso and within mat window area recto, otherwise good original condition.
