Very good signed proof impression, printed with delicate plate tone. As completed and issued by the artist in September 1935.
The Mansion House is the official residence of the Lord Mayor of London. It is used for some of the City of London's official functions, including an annual dinner, hosted by the Lord Mayor, at which the Chancellor of the Exchequer customarily gives a keynote speech about the state of the British economy. In Walcot's etching, the Mansion House is seen with its flag unfurled, from behind the equestrian statue of Wellington in Cornhill. The Bank of England stands to the right, whilst double-decker buses make their way through the busy streets of the City.
On cream wove paper, with margins. Time toned within mat window area, otherwise very good original condition. |
