Superb signed proof impression with rich drypoint burr, printed with considerable plate tone. From the only edition of 80 signed and numbered proofs.

A Regatta on the Grand Canal is the most vivacious of James McBey’s Venice plates. Based on a sketch made in September 1925, it shows one of the flamboyant regattas on the Grand Canal with the Campanile and the Doge’s Palace in the background.

The Venetian plates of James McBey stand amongst the greatest of his printed works and remain some of the most sought-after works of the British Etching Revival.

On cream wove paper, with full margins and deckle edge. Very fine condition.
