Original Augustus John etching.
Superb impression with rich burr, signed by Augustus John with his full signature, “Aug. E. John”. From the only published edition of 25 signed proofs, as issued in 1906. Titled and numbered with edition and plate numbers in ink by Knewstub, Augustus John’s publisher.
A particularly rich impression – John continued to work on this plate while the edition of 25 impressions was being printed. This appears to be an impression taken immediately after the final touches had been added by the artist to the plate.
On pale cream laid paper, watermarked GC, with full margins and deckle edge. Generally very good original condition. Image surface excellent. |
