Original Edgar Holloway etching.
Excellent impression, from the only edition of 50 signed and numbered proofs.
Edgar Holloway drew this image of himself etching directly on to a plate in 1937, using a complicated arrangement of three mirrors. Although he planned an edition of 30 impressions, only one impression, no.1/30, is known, which was rediscovered by the artist in the 1990’s. In 1994 Holloway made a second version of the etching, on the present plate, to create this etching.
A fascinating self-portrait of an etcher with his needle at work on the plate, his brush and bottles of mordant at his side.
On cream laid F J Head paper with full margins and deckle edge. Excellent original condition. |
