The Lovers’ Walk, No.II 1864 |

Original drypoint. Signed in pencil. Ref: Schneiderman 67 ii/ii S 184 x 286 mm; P & I 152 x 240 mm SOLD |

Original Francis Seymour Haden drypoint.
Very good signed proof impression with burr to the drypoint line. This impression may represent a previously undescribed state as there appears to be further working with additional diagonal drypoint lines in the trees and reeds at the right when compared with Schneiderman’s illustrated example of his second state.
The image depicts the so-called “Lovers’ Walk” at Thames Ditton in Surrey; an area on the southern side of the River Thames, opposite Hampton Court Palace.
When R. Gutekunst released his catalogue of Haden’s entire remaining stock in July 1911, only one impression of this drypoint remained in stock – by October that year no impressions remained.
On cream laid antique paper with an elaborate armorial crest watermark; with full margins, narrow at top. Time toned verso and with mat line in outer margins, otherwise generally very good original condition. |
