Villa-Martin is an ancient town which lies between Seville and Malaga in southern Spain; not to be confused with the modern tourist resort of Villamartin on Spain’s Costa Blanca. Lumsden’s use of strong etched shadows contrasted with blank areas of the plate has allowed him the convey the feeling of clear sunshine and intense heat to this picturesque southern Spanish landscape.
On cream laid paper, watermarked Edmeads & Pine 1796, with full margins. Evidence of old adhesive at edges of sheet verso; one small rust spot, otherwise very good original condition. |
