Very good, signed proof impression of this previously unrecorded wood engraving by William E.C. Morgan.
Only eleven wood engravings by W.E.C. Morgan have yet been recorded. This previously undescribed original wood engraving appears to be an early work and is signed by the artist without his middle initials (it became his pracitce to include the ‘E.C.’). Unlike the majority of William Morgan’s other engravings, this proof is not numbered and it seems unlikely that this particular wood engraving was ever issued in any formal edition.
Despite gaining the Prix de Rome for engraving in 1924 and producing some of the finest and most elaborate engravings of the period, little is known of William E.C. Morgan as a wood engraver today. This elaborate wood engraving represents a new title to be added to the known list of his works in this medium.
On fine Japan style tissue with full margins and deckle edge. Very fine condition.
