Very good impression with burr to the touches of drypoint, from the only edition of 25 signed and numbered proofs.

In July 1911, a year after he had left his job as a bank clerk, James McBey went to Spain with fellow artist and etcher, D.I. Smart. The prints resulting from this trip formed the basis for his first successful one-man show in London. These prints are now comparatively rare, the editions having been much smaller than those of McBey’s mature works.

On cream laid paper, watermarked Montgolfier, with full margins and deckle edge. Mild time tone in outer margins. Some residual paper from previous mounting at extreme edges of sheet verso, otherwise very good original condition. Image surface excellent.
