Excellent proof impression with strong etched line, from the only published edition.
William Douglas Macleod is one of the four most prominent Glaswegian etchers of the Etching Revival, along with D.Y. Cameron, Muirhead Bone, and Ian Fleming; however, the two youngest of this group, W.D. Macleod and Ian Fleming, have remained comparatively obscure as both arrived on the etching scene around the time that the market collapsed and, as a result, the work of these two talented printmakers has never been fully catalogued. With its strong and rapid draughtsmanship The Palace Tower, Siena shows the considerable talent of this gifted etcher at his finest.
On cream laid paper with full margins and deckle edge. Very fine original condition. Image surface excellent. |
