Very good, strong impression from the only edition of 50 signed proofs issued by the artist through Colnaghi & Co. in 1929.
This etching shows Hungerford Bridge, often known as the Charing Cross railway bridge, spanning the River Thames in London with the Shot Tower (now demolished) at the left of the image. The bridge carries trains in and out of Charing Cross station, close to London’s famous Trafalgar Square. Waterloo Bridge and the spires of the City of London’s churches are just visible in the distance.
All of the carefully crafted etchings by Allan Gwynne-Jones were created during the period when he was Professor of Painting at the Royal College of Art in London, between the years 1923 and 1930.
On cream wove paper with full margins. One or two faint stains in margins just affecting top of image, otherwise very good original condition. |
