Original Katherine Cameron etching and drypoint.

Very good impression of this scarce etching and drypoint by Kate Cameron. A signed proof printed with plate tone, from the only edition.

Morven is a charateristic example of Katherine Cameron’s fine topographical etchings of the Scottish highlands and is an excellent example of her mature work as an etcher. Katherine Cameron only began to pursue original etching in earnest from around 1911 onwards and although she is best known for her highly stylised studies of flowers, she also produced a body of outstanding topographical works such as Morven.

The Morven depicted in Katherine Cameron’s etching is a peninsula on the west coast of Scotland bounded to the south by the Sound of Mull. There are two other Morven’s in Scotland; one is a hill in Aberdeenshire and the other is a mountain in Caithness, both to the east of the country. This picturesque western area of Scotland was much visited by printmakers of the Etching Revival and features in works by many of the foremost etchers of the time ranging from David Young Cameron to William E.C. Morgan and others.

On cream wove paper with full margins and deckle edge. Faint toning in outer margins towards very edge of sheet, otherwise very good original condition. Image surface excellent.
