Mezzotint after David Cox. Excellent signed proof impression, with rich mezzotint burr. From the only published edition, as issued to subscribers for the benefit of the Artists’ General Benevolent Institution when Sir Frank Short was acting as a Steward in 1901.
Old Gravel Pits, Moseley is the sole engraving which Frank Short made after the work of the highly accomplished and prolific watercolourist David Cox. The watercolour drawing upon which Frank Short’s engraving was based is in the Victoria & Albert Museum, London.
On simile Japan paper, with narrow margins, as issued. Mild uniform time tone, otherwise very good original condition. |
