Brilliant artist’s proof impression with exceptional contrast and beautiful clarity of line. An outstanding proof impression, aside from the normal edition, directly from the artist’s estate and with the executors’ estate blindstamp.
The haunting allegorical nudes produced by Nathaniel Sparks were few in number and are rare today. This beautifully modelled symbolic work displays Nathaniel Sparks’s exceptionally fine technique at its best.
An impression of this print was purchased by Queen Mary at its first exhibition at the Royal Academy of Arts in 1928. According to documentation in the archives of Bristol City Art Gallery, this image is based upon the foundation of the first Christian church at York.
On pale cream laid paper with full margins. Excellent original condition. |
