The complete set of 12 original prints
, the folio numbered in ink from the edition of 150 sets. First issue as published for the artist by John C. Nimmo, London, 1896.
An excellent set of good, strong impressions. This set of original prints presents the largest group of allegorical etchings by William Strang to be issued in a continuous group. William Strang produced one of the most significant bodies of original etched work by any Scottish artist of the period. Sometimes symbolic and often dour to the point of being macabre, his work is distinguished by a sense of realism, its solid compositions and its confident handling. Noted for its technical excellence, William Strang’s work has always been admired by both artists and critics alike; it continues to be amongst the most sought after of all Scottish original prints.
Each print is in excellent original condition, presented in its original mount, hinged into a bound folio with elaborately decorated front board, as issued. Entitled Paradise Lost by John Milton. A series of Twelve Illustrations Etched by William Strang, published for the artist by John C. Nimmo, London, 1896.
