Original William Walcot etching with drypoint.

Very fine signed proof impression printed with delicate plate tone. From the only edition.

It was for this form of contemporary architectural view that William Walcot became famous. In this etching, he has succeeded in merging a precise architectural drawing with an impressionistic view of contemporary life in the city. It is a distinctive and highly effective style which remains as popular now as it was during William Walcot’s lifetime.

Constructed between 1914 and 1917, the Cunard Building was once the headquarters and main passenger terminal for the world’s most famous shipping company, the Cunard Steamship Company. Cunard later merged with White Star Line, the owners of the fateful Titanic, and went on to build and operate some of the most famous cruise ships of the century, including the Mauritania, the Queen Mary and the Queen Elizabeth.

On cream wove paper, watermarked Whatman 1922 and with the 1923 rose blindstamp, with full margins and deckle edge. Mat line in outer margins, otherwise very fine original condition.
