Original R.S. Austin line engraving.
Beautiful impression of this delicate work, printed with carefully wiped tone at the extreme edges of the plate. A superb proof impression of the completed engraving, prior to the normal edition of 75, signed and dated 1929 by the artist in ink. The plate is known to have been destroyed.
Engraved at Burnam Overy, Staithe, Norfolk, this highly finished work shows the exquisite draughtsmanship characteristic of R.S. Austin’s finest line engravings. Indeed, his exceptional dexterity as an engraver is shown by both the extraordinary precision with which he has added a caterpillar climbing the stem of the tallest daisy and the remarkable texture which he has achieved amongst the curling petals of the flowers themselves. The initials “H.H.P.” at the lower right corner of the plate form a dedication to a Mr. H.H. Peach of Leicester.
On warm cream laid paper, watermarked Ingres France, with full margins and deckle edge. Very fine original condition. |
