Original R.S. Austin etching.
Very good impression of the completed state, from the only edition of 40 signed proofs, as issued for the artist by the Twenty-One Gallery. The plate is known to have been destroyed.
Almost all of Robert Sargent Austin's early printed work was executed in pure etching. This is a very fine example of his unusual and emotional figure subjects. It possesses the deep religious conviction which pervades much of his work and puts to dramatic effect his favourite pose of a figure kneeling in supplication to his Lord.
An impression of this print was exhibited at the Royal Academy in 1925.
On pale cream wove paper with full margins. Very good condition. |
