Salomon van Abbé’s fine portrait study of Neville Chamberlain shows the parliamentarian and Prime Minister prior to his downfall. Sadly, Chamberlain will always be remembered for his unfortunate acceptance of Hitler’s sham treaty, known as the Munich Pact, prior to the beginning of the Second World War. The failure of Chamberlain’s ‘peace in our time’ policy forced his resignation in favour of Winston Churchill.
