Original Charles William Cain drypoint.
Very fine impression with fresh burr, from the only edition of 77 signed and numbered proofs.
Like so many etchers of the time, C.W. Cain was drawn to Scottish subjects after his return from more exotic climes. However, rather than concentrating upon the desolate grandeur of the highlands themselves, he has chosen to portray the lively inhabitants of the land. Here the landscape has taken a subsidiary role to the children disembarking from their daily ferry to the local school. Cain’s drypoint is a charming representation of everyday life in the highlands.
On cream wove paper with full margins and deckle edge. Very good original condition. |
