Original William Walcot etching with drypoint.
Beautiful impression, printed with delicate tone. A signed proof from the only edition.
Soon after his arrival in England, William Walcot became sponsored by the Fine Art Society, under whose aegis he was sent to Italy. This scene is one of four small drypoints which resulted from the artist’s stay in Venice. They are amongst the finest of William Walcot's Italian views and show his outstanding gift for portraying the atmosphere of a place through only fragments of its architecture and the slightest suggestion of its populace.
On cream wove paper, with full margins and deckle edge. Very fine original condition. |
