One of seventeen original lithographs drawn by Whistler on transfer paper whilst staying in Lyme Regis in the autumn of 1895. Samuel Edward Govier and his son posed for these lithographic drawings and it is his son who is seen standing at the left in this image. S.E.Govier senior also sat for Whistler’s oil painting entitled The Master Smith (Boston Museum of Fine Arts).
