Rare signed proof impression, initialled by the artist in pencil.
This etching of Carisbrooke Castle on the Isle of Wight is typical of D.C.Read’s quiet, naturalistic views of the scenery in and around the south coast of England. In characteristic manner, D.C.Read has avoided the traditional view of the castle entrance, choosing instead a prospect which has allowed him to linger on the surrounding landscape, rather than the castle itself.
On cream wove paper with narrow margins as prepared by the artist himself. Very fine original condition. |
