Original Muirhead Bone drypoint.
Brilliant working proof impression with exceptionally rich drypoint burr. One of only 3 proofs printed in the first state of the plate. Signed and inscribed by Muirhead Bone “Leόn trial. 1st state” and further inscribed “1st state – 3 prints”. Prior to the reduction of the plate and prior to many alterations to the image, especially in the foreground of the picture.
Impressions in the reduced and completed state of the plate (93 in all) were issued by Macmillan & Co. in Old Spain in 1936.
On simile Japan paper, with full margins and deckle edge. Excellent original condition.
