Original Hubert von Herkomer etching.
Rare signed proof impression, printed by the artist himself, aside from the edition used in Hubert Herkomer’s book on etching and engraving in 1892.
Hubert von Herkomer specialised in paintings of social realism. The figures in this etching were used for one of his works which portrayed the hardships of the working classes journeying by boat to the New World.
(This original etching must be distinguished from the photogravure of this etching, which was reproduced in his book or the art journal for 1892)
On cream laid paper, watermarked Herkomer, with full margins and deckle edge. Residual trace of glue deposit verso, along with ink framing line, otherwise very fine original condition. |
