Winner of the Prix de Rome for engraving in 1925, the Liverpool based artist Geoffrey H. Wedgwood produced a fine and distinctive body of topographical works in combinations of etching, drypoint and line engraving. These beautifully precise views are chiefly architectural in content, although G.H.Wedgwood invariably introduces the charmingly observed local figures which are found in this scene and which are typical of his entertaining portrayal of human activity. An acute observer of every detail of his surroundings, Geoffrey Wedgwood has captured every aspect of the moment and its varied participants with his remarkably facile line.
On cream wove paper, with full margins and deckle edge. Very fine original condition. Image surface excellent. |
