One of only about 20 signed proofs ever printed from this plate.
This unusual architectural etching by William Strang is remarkable for its seemingly incidental viewpoint; however, it is clear that the subject was carefully planned to form an intriguing and beautifully balanced compostion centered around the figure of Christ on the cross.
On warm white laid paper, with cross-in-hand watermark, with full margins and deckle edge. Evidence of damp staining at extreme outer edges of sheet, otherwise very good original condition. Image surface excellent. |
