The Angry Cloud is one of the most dramatic and powerful of Frank Short’s original mezzotints. The scene shows heavy waves breaking on the beach at Seaford, Sussex, with the cliff, breakwater and lighthouse of Newhaven illuminated by the last rays of the setting sun. With the exception of Percival Gaskell, no other British artist has used the mezzotint medium to capture the fleeting moments of nature in this way. Frank Short’s works of this kind remain unsurpassed to the present day.
On pale cream wove paper with full margins and deckle edge. Excellent condition. Image surface excellent. |
