A Quiet Evening on the Ferry over the Blyth shows the river Blyth near Walberswick in Suffolk. The vast majority of Sir Frank Short’s original printed works were created as pure etchings and it is as an etcher that Short exerted his fundamental influence upon the following generations of printmakers. It is in this style of etching that Frank Short displays his particular mastery for capturing a sense of distance and space. In characteristic manner he has used the timbers of the sea-wall in the foreground to enhance the remarkable sense of perspective throughout this skilfully composed work.

On cream laid paper with margins. Very fine condition.
