One of three profile portraits which Theodore Roussel made in drypoint of his assistant and close companion Agnes Ethel Mackay (1889-1980). Agnes Mackay was the niece of T.C.Roussel’s second wife. After the death of Ethel Roussel in 1917, Agnes came to live with Theodore Roussel to take charge of the household. She became his studio assistant and helped in the printing of his etchings. She was the artist’s constant companion and when he died in 1926 it was Agnes Mackay who used the material available in his studio to write the first catalogue on his printed works.
On cream simile-Japan paper with full margins and deckle edge. Very fine original condition. Image surface excellent. |
