Original Edmund Blampied drypoint.
Superb impression with exceptionally rich burr to the drypoint line, from the only published edition of 100 signed proofs. The plate for this print is known to have been destroyed.
Edmund Blampied made a number of original etchings and drypoints depicting scenes of vraicing – the gathering of seaweed at low tide. Seaweed, or vraic, was used extensively in the Channel Islands as a source of manure and fuel. Here was the perfect subject for Edmund Blampied’s art – carthorses and labourers at work on the open expanses of beach, set against the brilliant light of sunshine reflected on wet sands.
On pale cream laid paper with full margins and deckle edge. Very fine condition. |
