Original Edmund Blampied drypoint.
Superb impression with dramatic chiaroscuro and rich, velvety drypoint burr. A truly outstanding example from the only edition of 100 signed and numbered proofs.
It is for his outstanding etchings and drypoints of horses in motion, such as this splendid depiction of carthorses fleeing from the flames which illuminate the scene, that Edmund Blampied is now most famous. The intimate knowledge of working horses which Edmund Blampied had acquired during his youth in the farming countryside of Jersey provided him with an insight into horses and their movement unequalled by any printmaker of his generation. This exceptional drypoint displays Edmund Blampied’s ability to depict dramatic action through his use of intense chiaroscuro perhaps better than any other of his printed works.
On pale cream laid paper, watermarked David Strang, with full margins and deckle edge. Very fine condition. |
