The Greek origins of Demetrios Galanis are clearly apparent in this highly stylised wood engraving. Although universal as an image, Galanis's interpretation of the Madonna and Child betrays the strong influence of the Russian and Eastern European art of the icon. Demetrios Galanis developed his own angular style which, combined with a dramatic approach to the use of line when cutting the block, has produced an image of striking intensity.

Good proof impression on cream simili Japan paper with full margins and deckle-edge. Very good original condition.
