Original Charles William Cain drypoint.
Very fine signed proof impression from the only edition.
In 1915 C.W. Cain had joined the Artists’ Rifle Volunteers in the Near East and when the war was over he had taken a studio in Baghdad, using the city as his base for over a year. The striking landmark depicted in this original drypoint lay on Cain’s journey from Basrah, in the south of Iraq, to Baghdad.
On cream laid paper with fleur-de-lys watermark, with full margins and deckle edge. Very fine original condition. |
