Original Robert Goff etching.
Very good, strong signed proof impression printed with considerable plate tone.
Colonel Robert Goff retired from the Coldstream Guards in 1878 to devote himself to art, becoming a widely respected printmaker and painter specialising in topographical views of England and Europe. He was elected a Fellow of the Royal Society of Painter-Etchers and Engravers in 1887 and contributed regularly to their exhibitions. The Sentinels, King’s Weston is one of the largest and most elaborate of his etched plates, the title referring to the tall pine trees which appear to stand guard along the approach to the famous stately home of King’s Weston.
On antique laid paper with margins as prepared by the artist. Very good original condition. |
