Original D.Y. Cameron etching.
Excellent signed proof impression printed with delicate tone across the foreground stone work.
This elaborate etching of the gargoyle waterspouts of Stirling Castle, in Scotland, is a fascinating architectural study which anticipates Cameron’s choice of subject for his Chimera of 1911. The silhouetted figures of two sentries stand guard beyond the open portal. The fluttering drapery of the flag, some birds, and a distant group of soldiers have balanced the composition and added a sense of movement to this beautifully wrought design.
On soft simile Japan paper, with full margins. |
