Very rare original three-colour linocut by Guy Malet. Excellent signed proof impression with fresh, unfaded colours.

Terrace Gardens, Richmond approximates more closely to Guy Malet’s wood engravings than almost any of his other linocut designs. A striking three-colour linocut, this image depends entirely upon the presence of the principal dark green line cut, or ‘key block’. Printed in green, mustard, and orange coloured inks (producing a dark green surrounding border), this is a particularly fine and highly finished proof impression.

The scene shows the gardens near the top of Richmond Hill, which overlook the river and countryside to the west of London. Numbered from the only edition of 25 signed proofs - a large number of the proofs from this edition were destroyed by water and this print is now very rare.

On fine, firm Japan-style paper with full margins and deckle edge. Very fine original condition.

Provenance: The studio of Guy Malet.
