Very good, delicately printed impression of this rare original etching by Joseph Stannard.

There is a distinctly Flemish feel to the enchanting etchings of Joseph Stannard. As one of the youngest members of the Norwich School of artists (he began to exhibit with them at the age of 14) Joseph Stannard developed a precision of line which was to make his etchings stand out as some of the most sensitive to come from this important School. Despite the brevity of his life, he developed a highly refined etching technique and is known to have instructed his neighbour and fellow artist E.T. Daniell in the art of etching. This fine airy seascape is a beautiful example of the quiet attention and assured hand which so distinguishes Joseph Stannard’s etched works. Only twelve original etchings by Joseph Stannard are known, all of which are now scarce.

On cream wove paper with margins. Mild foxing to sheet, otherwise very good original condition.

Provenance: Hotblack Collection, Norwich.
