Original Andrew Geddes drypoint.

Excellent impression from the only published edition of 25 numbered proofs.

This drypoint remained entirely unpublished until this single edition of 25 numbered proofs was printed from the plate in 1921 – the plate was then cancelled and destroyed.

As an original printmaker Andrew Geddes was pioneering in the extent of his combined use of drypoint with etching and he is regarded as one of the key figures to have carried this combined technique into the Victorian era.

The infant portrayed in this original drypoint is thought to be the artist’s niece, Agnes Paul.

On cream laid F.J. Head paper with full margins and deckle edge. Numbered and inscribed by the printer in pencil. Very fine original condition.

(An impression from the cancelled plate, printed immediately after this edition had been made, is included with this numbered proof).
