Very fine impression from a comparatively early edition, prior to the edition printed by T. Palser in about 1816.
Pastoral is one of the most poetic examples of John Hamilton Mortimer’s highly skilled and imaginative original etched works. It is one of five allegorical compositions in the group of works which he dedicated to Sir Joshua Reynolds upon their publication in December 1778 (shortly after John Hamilton Mortimer’s election as Associate of the Royal Academy). This particularly fine impression is printed on cream wove paper dating from 1811, with full margins and deckle edge. Generally very good original condition. Image surface excellent. |
