Original John Buckland Wright line engraving and etching.
Unique proof impression, printed in balck and yellow inks, folded to form a Christmas card. Signed and inscribed by John Buckland Wright for Christmas 1951.
This striking copper plate engraving and etching was created whilst Buckland Wright was concentrating upon techniques of colour printing from copper plates. There is no cataogue of the rare prints which he used occassionally as Christmas cards, sent to his closest friends. None of these plates was ever issued in any form of published edition and all are now extremely rare. This particular subject is a striking combination of John Buckland Wright’s characteristic depiction of the female form with an experimental abstract pattern recalling his work with S.W. Hayter at Atelier 17.
On cream wove paper with full margins and deckle edge. Very good original condition. |
