Original Fredrick Carter drypoint.
Particularly fresh signed proof impression with rich, velvety drypoint burr. A rare early proof printed with considerable plate tone.
Clowns is seen by Richard Grenville Clark as continuing the theme of the Italian Commedia dell’Arte. Certainly, it translates the sentiment of those strange early theatrical works to the contemporary world with a frivolous joie-de-vie to create a particularly delightful little plate.
On simile Japan paper with full margins. Very fine original condition. |
