Original Ethel Gabain lithograph.
Very good impression from the only edition of 36 signed proofs, printed by the artist herself. The stone is known to have been effaced.
The West Wind is typical of Ethel Gabain’s lithographs, its reflective mood capturing the essence of young womanhood, a theme which Gabain made particularly her own. Drawn in 1914, the artist’s most productive year, there is an air of thoughtful contemplation to this image in which a young woman is depicted in wistful and introspective mood. No other artist of the period achieved such intimacy of feeling in their printed works.
On firm simile Japan paper with full margins. Sheet time toned. One tear in upper margin, otherwise good original condition. |
