Original Francis Dodd drypoint.

Very good signed proof impression with burr to the drypoint line.

Poplar is a particularly fine example of the style of architectural plate for which Francis Dodd became best known. A beautifully balanced composition depicting one of the main streets in the London suburb of Poplar, with its elaborate lampposts and typical mix of architecture, shown exactly as one would have seen it on any normal day during the late 1920’s. In his characteristic manner Francis Dodd has introduced an interplay of light and shadow across the foreground of the image to add further decorative interest to the composition.

On firm simile Japan paper with margins. Faint suggestion of unobtrusive foxing in outer margins of sheet, otherwise very good original condition.
