Excellent artist’s proof impression with rich burr.
This accomplished portrait of the artist’s wife, Gertrude, dates from the year in which H.M.Livens first began to use the technique of drypoint. Drypoint remained the artist’s favoured technique throughout his known printed works. It is impossible to speculate regarding H.M.Livens’s entire oeuvre as a printmaker due to the loss of so many of his works; however, he is known to have produced at least 65 original drypoints between the years 1905 and 1918. Sewing was exhibited at the International Society and went on to win Livens a medal at the Milan Exhibition in 1906.
On cream wove paper with full margins and deckle edge. Very good original condition. |
